“You go write and I’ll go left.”

This was my husband’s famous quote of the day. Quite ingenious, as the two of us planned our day — one of us home on vacation, the other housebound because of the intense heat.

I sit at my computer, relishing the cool air as Ed heads for the outdoors. Unfortunately, the weather networks can’t agree on the current temperature, but my husband confirms that it’s hot.

It is easy to assume that I will write today, keeping my mind active, and Ed will head West to visit his coffee buddies or pick up nourishment.

That’s what makes our relationship work. We enjoy our differences and celebrate our similarities.

So today, while I remain indoors writing and Ed is left spending his time outdoors, we are weathering the heat in the best way we can.
