Member-only story
“You can’t get it finished if you don’t get it started,” said Lisa, my co-worker.
Wow, how simplistic are Lisa’s words? As soon as I heard them, I fell in love.
I’m a procrastinator. And as I let things pile up, getting to those things isn’t easy.
I talk a lot about my clutter — ad nauseam. Many are wondering why I don’t just set aside time and go through the piles.
Maybe it’s because the clutter is well-loved, and to discard things, I would lose a piece of me.
Or perhaps the difficulty lies in the focus of getting started.
And I wonder, as some people fear success as well as failure, do I fear the act of finishing as much as getting started?
Once done, where would I be? Organized? Lost?
It’s a thought that would explain procrastination well.
At least that’s the story I’m sticking with.
