When I was twelve, I wanted regular piercings in my ear lobes but my father was extremely opposed. He told me I could get a nose ring, that's it. That's making a strong point, but he knew I'd never do it. Shortly after that, he conceded and I got my ears pierced. I guess he just had to get used to the idea.
