When I opened my notifications this morning, I saw a newsletter from Hope*Healing*Humour.

The note reminded me to always remain kind, even in the face of adversity.

Liberty’s prompt, “Have you ever been on one side or the other of a “random act of kindness”? I would love to see your stories about that this week (and beyond)!” inspired me.

While thinking about a random act of kindness, I immediately thought of her — a woman I’d never met before but who, through one sentence, sent my heart soaring. I’m sure she doesn’t even know.

She was a passerby while I was on my way to work. As I approached her, she said, “You look lovely in that dress.” Then she kept on walking.

She wanted nothing from me — just to know she noticed me.

I still cherish that encounter seventeen years ago because, to a kind stranger, I mattered.
