Day Twenty prompt: Did you ever go camping when you were a kid?
This prompt sent me heading straight for the dictionary to clear up one thing. How long are we considered a kid? Is it when we’re toddlers, maybe preschoolers? Do we no longer hold kid status when we enter adolescence? Where is the cutoff point?
That’s a lot of questions.
Dictionary.com defines a kid as “Informal. a child or young person.” But it begs the question of a young person according to whom?
I’m in my early sixties, and I believe if you’re anywhere from one day into your late thirties, you’re young. So, all things considered, I can now answer Keeley’s question.
Yes, I went camping when I was a kid, but I was in my late teens.
I went with my mother and her plutonic colleague. I wrote an article about the trip, including how I felt about the handsome man.
