The thing I wonder about is whether the loving relationship you crave with your brother will return by allowing your mother back into your life. If that's the only reason for doing it (and it's an admirable one), you run the risk of bringing back chaos, while your brother stays mad at you, since although you and your mother will be talking, you'll still be at odds.
