Last night I starred in Star Wars in the leading role.
Day Four Prompt: Write about your love or hate for Star Wars
My former husband and I had different opinions about what made a movie outstanding. He liked action; I preferred drama. I enjoyed films that encouraged viewers to feel hope, inspiration, and gratitude, even if we got there through sadness and grief — movies like Fame. Marty craved Star Wars.
I accompanied him to two movies in the franchise, the original Star Wars and Return of the Jedi. All I can say is that these were enough. I found the clanking of warrior boots, screeching cries, and intense music too overwhelming. It was excessive action for this anxiety-ridden girlfriend who didn’t need to add stress to life’s frenzy — instead, I needed calm. I gathered that those who sought action lived a humdrum life, craving excitement. However, because I lived each day nervously, I wanted to enjoy a film that relaxed me.
After the two, Marty never asked me again. But he still loved to bring me to James Bond films, movies that were technically no less stressful. But I digress.
I forget much about the films besides Jar Jar Binks. I had to look him up to reacquaint myself with him. Looking at his adorable face, I noted his comical brown eyes and animated grin. But I don’t remember him…
