Day Three prompt: It’s national screen-free week. Go one without a screen (including phones and TV) and write about it. (I’ve continued adding no caffeine or spirits, too, from Day One’s prompt to add to this mess.)

Some might imagine this prompt is the hardest one yet, but it’s an easy one for me. Easy because I refuse to follow the command. Going without coffee was bad enough because it would have made my waking hours a living nightmare, but going without TV would keep me awake — all night. I fall asleep to Family Feud and leave it on for most of the night because it helps keep me in dreamland.

And if by slim chance I’ve fallen asleep without the murmur of Steve Harvey, I’ll need my cell alarm to wake me up. Twice. I set two alarms, just in case the first and its snooze button don’t work. What can I say? I’m not a morning person. Especially without coffee.

I know people used to function without technology and went out to play, but that was during a time when people enjoyed speaking face-to-face. Not so much anymore. Now, I’m lucky if people answer their phones; otherwise, I can only feel grateful for a text telling me…
