Ruby Noir’s Bonus Prompt #1: If you were brutally murdered, what would people say about you on Dateline if they were being honest?
Ruby, I think I’ll take a stab at this.
The lights dimmed, and room temperature rose before Skye, the shelter-turned-housecat gave her last performance. Her kidneys failed months ago, and no one knew better than Karen’s husband that the feline’s days stood numbered. Some heard Karen say, “If only I could switch places with Skye, I would.” Then, mere days after Skye expired, Karen died. The cause was death by self-inflicted cuts until the coroner flipped her corpse over, revealing a bruised neck, twisted vertebrae, and a profound stab wound to her back. All eyes cast toward her husband, but when the officers climbed the circular staircase to arrest him, they found Ed face-down, dead on the floor.
