I went to a restaurant many moons ago and ordered alligator as an appetizer and was surprised how it tasted like chicken. I was really surprised and a touch disappointed that something so out there was really not a new-tasting dish. But I've eaten many things that others would probably find gross just for the intrigue. Mostly just a bite to try it.
