I Thought Antiques Are Things Over Fifty Years
But I was wrong.
According to dictionary.com, an antique is “any work of art, piece of furniture, decorative object, or the like, created or produced in a former period, or, according to U.S. customs laws, 100 years before date of purchase.”
Day Seven prompt: Is there something in your house that might be classed as antique?
I’ve moved many times in my life. Eighteen to be exact. It was hard to bring possessions with me during each move because I was schlepping a family, or leaving a marriage, or downsizing. I’m also not partial to antiques, which explains why most of my belongings are current.
While some people are collectors of antiques, I’m a collector of clutter. Although my dust is old, it’s hardly ancient. But I do have pictures of my grandparents. These photos aren’t one hundred years old, but the people in them are — albeit they’re deceased. It depends on whether you believe they still exist in spirit.
When my former husband’s grandmother passed away, he gifted me with a set of her English fine bone china. The teacups were stunning, with their tiny saucers to match. I loved them, but without a wall unit or credenza to display them, they ended up on a cupboard shelf behind a…
