KEELEY’S APRIL 30-DAY CHALLENGE
I Owned a Car Before I Got My License
But do toys really count?
Day Twenty-Seven prompt: What is the first car you owned?
You might think a snazzy gal like me drove around town in a sporty Corvette, top-down, but you’d be wrong. While at one time, I technically owned a ‘67 Mustang convertible through marriage, it wasn’t my first car. No, ownership of my first vehicle occurred long before I could drive.
I don’t remember the exact car I claimed as mine because my mother bought my brother and me many. Each set of hot wheels zoomed along a plastic track that J and I played with repeatedly. C’mon now. Keeley didn’t ask about the first car I drove; she wondered about the first car I owned. So, if I’m being authentic, it started with a toy.
My family owned a large Buick sedan when I was a kid. When my parents got a new car, that Buick went into my brother’s hands — two and three-quarter years my senior. When he grew tired of it, and I got my driver’s license, the car became mine. Mine to drive, but not officially mine. I didn’t drive that eyesore for long before it almost died on me on the highway, and I refused to take it anywhere after that. But it still holds memories of my first car, my first accident, and the only green car I’ve driven.
