Day Thirty-One prompt: Are you superstitious?
I’m super nervous, hyper-vigilant, and over-the-top silly, but while I don’t believe in superstitions, I can’t say with certainty that they don’t exist. And this makes me nervous. So, I cower as I walk under ladders, stay mindful when I step on sidewalk cracks, and take note if it rains after killing a spider. Nevertheless, I still do these things. But what prevented me from adopting Huey rather than his all-black sister? I can promise you it wasn’t because of superstition. It was because my kitten was “the one.” And I haven’t regretted my decision.
I have many powerful forces dictating my actions, all of them intangible. God keeps me law-abiding, while spirits keep me questioning my life after death. Then, there’s my conscience which ensures I live life kindly toward others. So, who needs a set of benign actions causing a negative reaction to add to my lot? It makes no sense. Although I’ve never…
