I agree a "heartfelt" apology is important, but coercing one I don't believe is best. In this situation, you were forced to apologize in order to get your privacy, and this doesn't sit well with me. I believe your parents were good people and had good intentions to teach you right from wrong, but I'm not sure this time they chose the best route.
