Day Twenty-Three: A Scene From a Scary Movie That Has Traumatised You

Before Cabbage Patch, American Girl — gosh, even Chuckie, there lived a doll. It had a head made of porcelain and wicked glass eyes with a smirk that spelled evil. Only my terrified screams masked his haunting laugh. What was the name of the movie? I don’t know. What is the name of the doll? Sorry, I can’t say. My only memory is that it existed and scared the living daylights out of me when I was a child. All I can remember is a faint image of a doll whose memory haunts me to this day.

Interestingly, I remember the doll as a clown, but in reality, I don’t think it was. I believe a clown at a circus scared me, and in my mind’s eye, I’ve connected the two. Such is the life of an anxious child. With so many worries, they weave themselves into one.

This topic is tricky because I’m not someone who enjoys scary movies. So when deciding on a scene in a scary movie that most traumatized me, this is the one that came to mind, but that’s where this story ends. I guess it was so traumatic that I forgot it. However, I haven’t forgotten my uneasiness around clowns. Their jolly laugh can easily be mistaken for deception.
