FEBRUARY 28-DAY CHALLENGE
Day Twelve: Your Favourite Way to Show Yourself Love
It all boils down to the bare basics.
As far back as I can remember, I’ve been self-indulgent. If I want something, I give it to myself. I don’t wait for special occasions. I’m unsure if that’s showing love or my lack of self-restraint. But do I love myself? That depends. I love deeply the person who is intrinsically me, but the day-to-day, Karen? She has me guessing.
I’m riddled with anxiety. It’s no secret. I write about it ad nauseam. When you live with this much worry, the best way to indulge yourself is not to judge because chastising only worsens it. When I feel I can’t do things or act awkwardly because of panic, I tell myself I’m not alone. This reminds me everyone has a cross to bear. Anxiety is mine. I show self-love when I embrace myself for all that is me—even the parts I don’t like.
So, there you have it. This is a brief snapshot into my world where showing myself kindness is more meaningful than pouring a glass of champagne, running a bubble bath, putting on some calming music, and popping a chocolate-covered strawberry into my mouth. Perhaps coming up with a more creative response is a hardship because I’m battling a cold and feeling kind of poopy.
