FEBRUARY 28-DAY CHALLENGE
Day Thirteen: What is the Love Language That Best Defines How You Receive Love?
Hey Keeley, can I get another question?
Ugh, leave it to me to read the question wrong. Can we not change it to how do I best give love? With caring for my husband, Ed, through his liver transplant and recovery, it’s clear that acts of service played a significant role. But oh no, here we are with the real question at hand.
What love language best defines how I receive love?
Hmm. Now this one is going to take some thought. Regarding romantic love, I see myself as more of a giver than a taker. So, it makes me wonder. Does this make me harder to love? Do I make receiving love more difficult than it needs to be?
I can be a whiner. If Ed ignores me, I’ll fidget. Then, I’ll try something amusing to gain his focus, and if all else fails, I’ll loudly complain. This makes him retract into himself. It’s hardly the reaction I was seeking.
So, let’s break it down.
The thing I most want to receive is attention.
Whether it’s by Ed rubbing my shoulders, telling me he loves me, getting me my favourite sushi, escorting me to family events, or wrapping his arms around me in comfort…
