Day Nineteen: The best concert you’ve ever been to

Deciding which concert I attended that would rank as best was an easy decision. I hadn’t attended many, after all. I don’t like crowds, and I don’t appreciate weed-smoking attendees invading my space. And with over-intoxicated jerks who thrust their rowdiness my way, count me out. I’d rather watch videos of my favourite artists than partake in anxiety-provoking shows.

So, does this make it difficult to name the best concert I’ve ever attended? Not at all. This special performance is one I won’t ever forget despite happening over fifty years ago. The venue was my daughter’s school; the occasion was having parents partake in seeing our children entertain us. I’ve always loved listening to children sing — any child, not only mine. But on this day, in the gymnasium full of parents and teachers, I hid my head in embarrassment so no one would see my red blotchy face born with intense emotion.

My daughter’s class strolled into the room one by one, taking up row after row of gym space until every child was in choir formation. I was already incredibly proud as I watched my bright-eyed daughter prepare to sing. Her class was well-practiced, and she knew all the words. But as the performance started, something occurred…
