Crime Always Pays — Chapter Twenty-Nine

A million lifetimes had passed when Raven awoke. Tyler was gone.

She was unsure how late it was, but the ray of moonlight on Storm’s stall was a telling clue.

She slinked into the house through the back door and slid into bed.

“Raven, is that you?” Frances asked.

“Yes, it’s me, Mom. I’m home now.”

Raven couldn’t blame her mother for acting edgy. It was only a day ago that she had disappeared without a word and noticed missing; unfortunately, she couldn’t say the same thing for the banker.

Raven shed a tear until her father’s face replaced Julian’s, and her teardrops turned to waterfalls.

Suddenly, she felt abandoned — by her father and Tyler. How could either of them have left her?

One was living; one was dead — both were her lifeline.
