Crime Always Pays — Chapter Forty-Four

Sitting next to him in his hospital room, Raven was unsure whether Tyler could hear her, but that didn’t stop her from reading to him aloud.

The swelling around his eyes had healed, but she wondered if the attack had bruised his ego.

Stroking his hair between her fingers, she awaited a wink, a wince, or a smile — any sign that he’d come back to her.

After a year of daily visits, Raven was tired.

Although she had given up her garden job, school studies kept her busy.

No news was good news, as no criminal activity followed her after receiving Tyler’s flowers and his assault, but the doctors warned her that Tyler might never recover.

Something had to give.

Raven was at her tipping point, still not knowing if the man she was fawning over even loved her after all.
