Day Thirty prompt: Have you ever experienced road rage?

Anybody who says they’ve never experienced road rage is lying, but how we express it is where we differ. I prefer to stay alive, so I typically keep my feelings to myself — although grumbling under my breath is never off the table. I’m the person whose jaw drops as you cut in front of me or who sighs when you pace beside me so I can’t change lanes, but you’ll rarely see me give you the finger. I’m unsure if I’m classier than that or too afraid of confrontation. Road rage can kill you, and I’ve seen the possibility firsthand.

Several years ago, Ed and I were in the car on our way home when we got caught in a traffic jam. A car interjected itself in front of the vehicle before me to get out of the intersection. I presume the driver in front didn’t notice where the car came from and took offence. As we all had nowhere to go, anger flared in a flash.

The driver of the interjecting car opposed the driver behind, honking and nearly rear-ending him. We watched him jump out of his car and reach for something from his trunk. Suspiciously, his hand went into his pocket and stayed there. His passenger…
