Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她)’s prompts are very thought-provoking. This one is no exception.

#WritingPrompt: Do We Hold Family To Less Accountability?

The Dilemma

Is there any crime
my children could commit
that would cause me
to turn them in to the authorities?

I don’t think so.

Then you ask, how about murder?
Would you go so far
as to protect your flesh and blood —
those you pushed out of a tiny hole,
fed and nourished
and taught right from wrong,
at the cost of the law?

I believe I would protect
my children at all costs,
even if one of them
killed somebody else.

But then you ask,
what would I do
if the crime involved
one of my children
against the other?

Suddenly, I’m speechless.

Ruby Noir 😈, I see a deep-thought prompt brewing in this poem. Can you?
