Our beloved cat, Skye (2015–2023) — Author’s Photo

Day Twenty-Three prompt: Write a haiku about anything in your day-to-day life.

To my precious cat, Skye

Your fur was ivory.
Softly placed like powdered snow.
May you rest in peace.

Our grief is genuine and all-consuming. We miss Skye’s presence in her spot on our bed. When I write, she no longer rests beside me. There is no longer the pitter-patter of toenails on the hardwood floor greeting us when we come home and no longer a need to water or feed her.

Our cat went to the rainbow bridge on Thursday night. We will miss her forever.

Thank you for listening.

It’s not too late to dabble in Keeley Schroder’s April Challenge.

Here are the participants and supporters. Please show their stories some love.
