All I’m Missing Is The Ring
I had it once, but now it doesn’t fit.
Day Five prompt: If you’re not married, do you want to be?
I’ve been married once, for eleven years, and I still look back on my relationship with fondness. Perhaps it’s because Marty and I are still friends. We don’t see each other often, but you’d marvel at our closeness when we do. In fact, others do. It’s not typical for exes and a second wife to be this close and work harmoniously raising the children, but we did it.
So, with such a good outlook on marriage, you’d think I’d do it again with Ed. But we haven’t officially tied the knot and don’t plan to. Our first year was shaky as we navigated our feelings for each other. Working together at the same company came with its challenges, but eventually, we recognized our love for each other. We became all in, and this love has never faltered.
Why would we ruin a good thing? Why should we risk jiggling the apple cart?
Ed and I have lived together for twelve years, and I wouldn’t change much, including our marital status. And why should we? We work as a common law couple. I know my role; Ed knows his. Call me wrong, but changing his role to husband comes with the significant possibility of my expectations…
